I am entering my third winter with NIBCO radiant floor system on a slab, and I am have some serious trouble with the system. I heat with propane and it's a 40 gal Radiant water tank. At the bottom is the valve with the sensors to shut the system down if it detects gas leak or other dangers.
ReplyDeleteI am using this to heat a dog kennel for about 30 dogs. There seems to be no way to keep everything free enough of the ammonia smell from the dog urine that the valve does not shut it down. I can't keep it clean enough, I have put a fan on it to keep the air circulating, I have gated it off so dog's are not close to it. I need some other options because it is not working. Do I need to put in another system to circulate or filter the air, do I enclose the water tank, do I pipe in some fresh air just to the sensor, can I get another control that doesn't have a sensor, or do I need to look at other ways to heat my building? Last winter we did put in an electric "backup" tank, just to keep the floor from freezing when the main system goes down, and that got us thru last winter because it took 3 months to get a replacement valve from Supply Co, but it was over $1000 a month for heat. The literature says once the valve sensor shuts the system down it can not be reset. It must be replaced.
My operation is a registered charity as a dog rescue for puppy mill dogs and other abused or neglected dogs. We can't do $1000 mo for heat all winter. Any suggestions?. Please, share your secrets to working around this issue
